I used to write a blog when I was in Nepal, or rather I used to write three blogs when I was in Nepal; one about life in Nepal- in Swedish, one about life in Nepal- in English and one about birds. Since I came back to Sweden eight months ago I haven't written more than one entry but I have managed to somehow make all the photos disappear in my blogs. Sad, and some day I might take time to recover them if it's possible.
As I like writing I have now decided to start a new blog, a blog that is a "mixture of life and birds". As far as possible I will try to go for a walk, long or short, at Boglundsängen every Sunday afternoon and then write about that.
Boglundsängen is the name of a nature reserve just at the outskirts of Örebro city. The land has been changed from being an area for growing Salix, for energy production, back to wet meadows, with more or less water depending on the season. Perfect for birds! The area is easy to get to, I walk there in 20 minutes along Lillån. Lillån is the small river/creek that floods the meadows every year and that eventually runs in to Svartån, the river on which Örebro is situated.
Last time I was working in Sweden I used to cycle across Boglundsängen every day to get to my workplace, the school that has the same name as the little creek, Lillåns skola, and I know it fairly well. When I had my breast cancer five years ago I also spent a lot of time there, bird watching and just "being". It's an area that means a lot to me and I'm glad I'm living so close to it this time as well.
Today the sun was shining but it was fairly cold. The temperature was around -2 degrees but it felt colder, despite the sun. The whole of the area was covered in snow and there were no birds to be seen really. On the way to Boglundsängen, along the creek I did see some mallards and noticed how red their legs were. I tried to catch them in a photo but before I got the camera ready they were all in the water swiming towards me, probably thinking I was going to feed them! I managed to catch one couple though, and he has got nice, red legs!
Near the mallards I aslo saw a redpoll (gråsiska, Carduelis flammea). I'm pretty sure he wasn't alone but I could only see one bird. Of course he was too small, and too far away to take a photo of.
On the way to Boglundsängen you have to cross the motorway, E18/E20. I have found that you can walk under it at the same place as Lillån passes under it. There, just under the road, I found this stone on it's silver plate! Beautiful, isn't it?!
Here are some more photos from todays walk. It was a beautiful day and I'm looking forward to slightly warmer days and days when the ice and snow have disappeared and the birds start arriving.
